Short Bio
Angel Adams Parham completed her doctoral work in sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2003. Dr. Parham has research interests in political sociology, globalization, communications, and culture.
In recent research, Dr. Parham has explored the role of the Internet in helping diasporic communities to sustain community dialogue and ethnic identity. This work has focused on the Haitian diaspora's use of Internet forums for cultural expression and political and social networking across distance. A forthcoming article from this work will appear in the journal Global Networks.
Since coming to New Orleans, Dr. Parham has been exploring the historical and cultural linkages between Haiti and Louisiana's Creole heritages. Dr. Parham teaches, Introduction to Sociology, Social and Political Inequality, and Global Sociology.
