About The Minor

Environmental Studies at Loyola University New Orleans offers our students the opportunity to engage in a broad and integrated study of the environment from a variety of academic viewpoints. As an interdisciplinary minor, the curriculum represents courses from various colleges and departments that focus on understanding the relationships between humans and the natural world from biophysical, sociological, economic, philosophical, and religious perspectives. The program attempts to develop in students, the kinds of knowledge, wisdom, and problem-solving skills that can enable them to play an active role in protecting the future survival of our ecosystem.

At present, the Environmental Studies Program at Loyola University is an approved interdisciplinary minor. The curriculum of the Environmental Studies Program is designed to provide students will a broad exposure to different perspectives on understanding environmental issues. At the same time, we have attempted to make the minor as flexible as possible.

Our curriculum and courses are described on the Program of Study pages. Feel free to contact individual faculty for more information about their courses, or the program director, Dr. Paul Barnes at pwbarnes@loyno.edu.
