Short Bio
John P. Clark is the Gregory F. Curtin Distinguished Professor in Humane Letters and the Professions. He is also co-chair of the Department of Humanities, and a member of the Environmental Studies faculty. His books include Max Stirner’s Egoism; The Philosophical Anarchism of William Godwin; The Anarchist Moment; Renewing the Earth (editor); Environmental Philosophy (co-editor); Anarchy, Geography, Modernity; and A Voyage to New Orleans (co-editor and co-translator). He is now completing a work on the philosophy of social ecology and an anthology on political ecology. He is a moderator for Research on Anarchism, an international multilingual discussion list and research archives, and writes a column, "Imagined Ecologies," for the journal Capitalism Nature Socialism. His research interests include dialectical thought, ecological philosophy, environmental ethics, anarchist and libertarian thought, theories of the imaginary, cultural critique, and Buddhist philosophy. He has been active for many years in the green movement, an international movement for ecology, peace, social justice, and grassroots democracy. He is interested in ecological restoration, and is reforesting and reintroducing native species on 83 acres along Bayou LaTerre in Hancock County, Mississippi. He is the adviser to the Loyola Greens and the LUCAP Environmental Action Committee.
